Faith Walking

2Co 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) kjv


This is an area of great challenge in our lives, to walk by faith
and not by sight. Faith is a wonderful thing in the believers
life if we will only learn how to walk by faith. There is no text
or book apart from the Bible to lead us in the mystery of
Faith Walking. The Old Testament saints had no means but
the one that God the Father taught them. The experience of
faith was the way of faith for them and for us. We sometimes
jokingly call it the school of hard knocks, but it is a tough
school to go to. As Christians we can only learn such lessons
in that school as will be taught by our Lord and master, Jesus
Christ. What can we hope to learn on our own? I am afraid
left to ourselves we will only repeat the same mistakes all to
often, and learn little in the process, but if we seek the Lord
while we are at school he will instruct us in righteousness; that
we can not attain on our own.

The steps of faith are often slow and difficult as we must look
well to the road ahead if we are to make careful movement
and progress. We need a light unto our path, and the Word of
God will shine our way if we will read with a heart for God.
We will need a staff to lean upon and only Jesus is that
shepherd with such a staff as will help us most. We will need
food for our journey and that bread which will sustain us is
the bread of life, as God's divine word strengthens us if we
will feed upon his pastures. Yes these steps are sometimes
hard steps for our own stubborn natures are prone to wander
from the way. We will seek our own way but it will not satisfy
but make us the more tired and weary upon our walk.

If you will walk by faith, you must walk with Jesus. Not to go
ahead of him as we are most likely to strike out ahead of the
Lord to do our own will, but to wait upon the Lord. Here is
our problem, as we are strong headed to do for ourselves.
Like the shepherd who gently guides the sheep with the staff
we must heed the gentle touch of his staff to correct us and
guide us. Dear friend walking by faith may be your greatest
challenge, but if you will accept God leading it will be a walk
most secure and blessed of God.
